AirMagnet Spectrum Analyzer represents a radio analysis tool with out of band capability. With the special PCMCIA card supplied, the software is able to detect interference from various non IT devices as well as in band WiFi, for advanced high level visualization.

From the B/G/N band to the A/N band, spectrum analyzer allows for an easy to understand heat graph to be displayed, representing spectrum usage, and potential spectrum clashes that cause drop outs and failure.

The software tool also allows us to demonstrate how common every day devices can be causal to a WiFi networks problems, eg a Microwave oven heating a cup of tea, or DECT cordless devices that romp all over the 2.4 GHz spectrum, not to mention the A/V "WiFi repeaters" that give you foxtel in the bedroom.

To highlight the importance of this tool, Westmead Hospital needed proof of analysis that bluetooth heart monitoring technology did not clash with a Cisco wireless network. We were subsequently able to clearly see that the bluetooth frequenecy hopping design of the monitoring equipment, and the fixed channel nature of the Cisco access point, were able to co exist reliably without collision or interference.

In warehouses, the same interfence issues could occur, as we worked with a large logistics company around Australia to deliver bluetooth RFI product scanning for warehousing, whilst providing a warehouse wide Cisco wireless network at the same time.
