![]() | Brimbank City Council, located west north west of Melbourne CBD, has a 5 library system that is part of the network of libraries currently undergoing the deployment of wireless services amongst the state of Victoria after a government grant to public access computing in 2009. Requiring a system that integrated with their existing library management system, and authentication with a SIP2 system being a key requirement, Brimbank council chose to work with iNE and Venucomm in order to deploy their wireless solution. |

| iNE performed the survey analysis of the 5 libraries in early May, and was able to recommend to Brimbank council the solution requirements they would need using the BlueSecure platform. After the initial 3-4 days of analysis and report submission, the network cablers were able to get to work and start wiring up the dedicated points for the access point network. A solid effort and by the following week the team was able to get to work on configuring the equipment that had now cleared customs. | ![]() |
| Having 5 different libraries that in turn individually had different opening hours would normally be a management nightmare. Fortunately using the Bluesocket schedules and group schedules features, we were able to configure multiple permeatations of operating hours on a per day basis, Monday through Sunday, and group the subsequent daily time profiles together to form a group for each library. Once done, each was applied to the patrons role on the controller allowing us to in combination with the SIP2 authentication system, prepare the network for public access through the week. | |
![]() | During the survey, one library showed it had the potential to throw the wireless signal, with a tin roof that used to be concave. Thankfully it's now flat, and the signal wasn't distorted badly allowing the network to go out smoothly. The staff needed to access the network as well as it became available to them across the entire council. Transparent integration with the internal administration system was easily added to the controllers configuration giving staff the access they need on the run, at any library. |
| The html redirect pages were then implemented putting the final touches on the project, allowing each site to have photograph imagery indicating exactly the location they are indeed at, and presenting them with a conditions of use page that covers the legal aspects of providing public access internet. A cheerio to Anthony, Elias, Jarrod, Mark, Nick and the IT team at Brimbank Council who made this project such a pleasure. |
